Key reporting invalid in for Extensions keys loader

Hello,
I'm just in the process of updating to 6.0up98.8101.7337 64bit. I was able to enter the product key and activate without issue. The product key is for 16TB. We already have a 32TB key to make it unlimited, however it reports invalid. I'm copy/pasting the key from the company portal.

Could someone PM me so I can provide the details necessary to figure out why it's not working?

Thank you.

Hi,

There's a problem when I trying to install DSS v7 on a Dell R710 server. After I click agree conditions, there's an error message show me "No mediums found", and leave me 2 options "Reboot" and "Shutdown".

Is that mean no HD found on my server? What should I do next?

hardware list:

Dell Prec 6/i RAID controller
6*15K SAS HD(5HD RAID 5 configed, 1 global hot spare)

Thank you so much!!

Hello,

Is there anyone faced this issue? When I try to install DSS v7 on a Dell R710 server, after boot from USB stick, it's always show me no mediums found. I guess it is related my RAID controller(DELL Prec 6/i)?

May I have a solution for this?

Many thanks.

Recently we launched a new useful tool for the ZFS-based Open-E JovianDSS, available on our website at no cost. Try the storage License Calculator to check the exact license required for your pools and their groups - either data or non-data groups, for your storage setup with Open-E JovianDSS. All you need to select is:

• the redundancy level

• the number of disks in a group

• the number of groups

• the size of each disk

The calculator will automatically display the total necessary license capacity. NOTE: Results are shown for single pools only.

Calculate capacity now: http://www.open-e.com/r/a7j/

JDSS limitations

Thread to note and discuss JovianDSS limitations, both numeric and descriptional. It would be better to know them in advance, than to face them eventially. A couple of questions from me (to start the conversation):

- How many drives JDSS is able to logically support? 256 (it's a Linux limitation, as I know) or less? Today it is not hard to build 2-node cluster, putting into node 4 - 6 SAS controllers, which will support up to 256 target devices each. It's also possible to daisy-chain SAS enclosures with up to 90 HDDs inside. Thus, the 1000+ physical HDDs for single system - it's not a dream. Will JDSS be able to recognize and accesss all these drives, at least?
From the other hand, look at the document. The 65 - 71 and 128 - 135 opcode blocks are allocated for HDD mapping, thus, we have 16 allocated blocks. The minor opcode has range 0..255. Each disk might get 16 consecutive minor opcodes (first represents the entire disk and last 15 for partitions).
Number of possible drives is = 16 * ( 256 / 16 ) = 256.

- Does the pool or volume have their own limitations in size or number of components? The ZFS limitations are: 2^78 bytes for volume, 2^64 bytes for file, 2^48 files per directory, 255 chars for filename. Does the JDSS nested them or added something extra?

very slow performance

Hi,

running a V6, Release Date: 2009-11-17 with 24 TB on a Super Micro with Areca Controller.

16 GB RAM (4.4 in use),

4 Interfaces on one card are bonded as 4 x 1 GBit (without LACP)

Machine runs since 12.2009 without any problems, 1x 2 GB (boot)
3 x 2 TB, 2 x 5 TB, Licence is for 24 TB

Sharing only via NFS.

My problem since ~2 month? No changes.

Copying of 48 GByte takes 30 hours over network to a NFS-server.
Other NFS-shares to copy to this server much faster, ~ 1 GByte 1 Minute or so.

I logged in to the Areca-Controller and there are no problems. In open-e Interface, too. IPMI to Super Micro Server - no
errors seen.

The 5 partitions are mounted via NFS3:

storxnfs:/storxvol2 on /dataxs type nfs (rw,bg,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,soft,timeo=300,retran s=3,addr=x.x.x.x)

They are nearly full

347 G 91%, 276 G 86%, 806 G 83%, 1,4 T 64%, 228 G 96% remaining

One of them was 100% full.

Any suggestions? reboot?

Thanks, Harald

Hardware sizing for iSCSI Storage

$

Hello,

I know that there are certified hardware partners but I like to discuss hardware sizing generally to get some other points of view:

### Disks
If I plan an DSS7 Active/Passive iSCSI cluster with 8TB or 16TB diskspace, how many disks and what HW-Raid level do you suggest?
8TB: 3 Disks? 4 Disks? RAID5?
16TB: 5 Disks? 6 Disks? ...

### Disk Technology
Is there a big (real world) performance difference between SAS and SATA disk?

### Controller
In the past I used mostly LSI Controllers. Any suggestion here?
Write Cache with BBU yes/no?

### Network
I use MPIO for iSCSI with 2-4 1GBit Ethernet. The next storage I plan to setup with 2x 10Gbit MPIO with an Intel NIC. Ok?

### CPU
Single CPU with 2-4 Cores? How much does Open-E benefit from multicore?

### Memory
If I check the memory usage, Open-E does not use a lot... 8GB memory still enough or better 16 or even more?

Happy discussing... :-)

Best regards, Manuel

Hope to disable OpenSM Subnet Manager?

How do I stop the built in Infiniband Subnet Manager from loading at startup?

I have setup a new DSS7 box and every time I boot the box my Infiniband network starts throwing errors. All my existing Windows Servers start dropping connections to the Infiniband fabric.

I am thinking it is the built in subnet manager so I want to disable it to see if the problem is resolved if SM is not loaded.

Thanks,

Todd

Remove target from cluster and remove replication task

Hi,

I have problem when I remove target from cluster but I have error messages on the both node: Failover cluster could not perform requested operation (error code #HARCE03).
How I can remove that target from the cluster and change replication task?

A-A-Sync + failover with power-off

Hi,

this is a general question. We had three times the same recovery problem after a complete power loss.

Our equipment: two Open-e DSS V7 in different buildings, working as A-A-Sync cluster.
- sync-line point-to-point 10Gbit
- storage network line 10Gbit
- admin network line 2Gbit
We've 3 aux paths and some ping nodes in the storage network
The cluster is working well: When we trigger a failover, it works, and we can maintain the passive system and then failback again. All well.

Euch node is secured by its own local UPS devices. They provide battery power for 15-30 mins in case of line power loss.

The problem:

We had three global power losses during the last months in all of our buildings (during night, at weekend, of course, bad luck ;-)
And the behavior of the nodes/clusterwas the same:

After ten+x minutes, the first node felt when its batteries became empty.
Another ten minutes later(!), the second one did, after its UPS shut down.
The time between should be enough to complete the failover.

In our expectation, we should be able to restart the cluster and failback after repowering the nodes.
But this didn't happen.

We succeeded to re-instantiate all sync tasks after we repowered the nodes.
But we found the cluster unable to start and needed the help of the technical support (they did something via remote support line what we can't do via admin interface).

Question: Bug or feature?

Our idea, now: The nodes seemed not to keep the cluster's state from before the powerloss of the second node.
Thus I think that I misunderstand how failover works, at least im some detail. Any hints?

Robert

DSS7 iSCSI HA Disk and Target config

$

I am setting up my first Active/Active HA configuration. I am using the guide found here.

Are there additional resources that I can read up on to understand the configuration of iSCSI HA better?

My understanding of iSCSI is that performance improves with the number of iSCSI targets. So traditionally I've created multiple smaller discs/volumes/targets. I'm wondering if this applies to DSS7 in an HA configuration and how to configure my disks and targets moving forward.

We are using 40Gb Infiniband for the targets so it is not anticipated that bandwidth will be an issue.

Thanks,

Todd

Hosts binding: One Host "B" cant bind to Host"A" - the other way works

$

Hi there

I got the order to evaluate Open-e DSS7 with iSCSI Active-active Option - so i am quite new with DSS.

Host "DSS2" cant bind to "Host "DSS1" (if i start this binding while in the GUI of "DSS2")
"Failover Cluster couldn´t execute (error code BE13)"
On Host "DSS2" the Event log says every 10 Minutes: "Hosts binding: Connection to Host "dss1" lost. Please check communication route between local Computer and host "dss1"
On Host "DSS1" the Event log doesnt note any Informations, Errors or warnings.

IF i initiate the bind out of the GUI of Host "DSS1" (to connect Host "DSS2") it works and Host "DSS2" writes an Information in the Event log
"Host binding: Host "DSS1" is connected"
and after 10 Minutes
"Host binding: Host "DSS1 is connected again"
Then no more informations or Errors in the event-Log.
So this direction seams to work

I am running on a LAN, no Routers or FWs in between, Volume Replication is using a direct Point-to-Point-Connection (10GbE) without any Switch in between.
Each host can ping every IP-Adress on the other Host (Checked with the ping Utility in Console).

This Active-Active Cluster is not yet productive (and iam using the Trial license with full functionality), but i want to know whats the Problem before it runs in an productive Environment!

Does anyone have a Suggestion what goes wrong or how i could troubleshoot this Behaviour more in detail?
Thanks for any suggestions
